They used to be able to speak to one another without filling the air with awkwardness.
Now, the room is full of dying thoughts that crush them at every turn–breathing is a challenge.

She said it’d get easier.
She said they’d be okay.
She said time would make things better than they had been.

How could she know SHE lied?

The elephant watches the two of them attempt to sort outtheir issues.
It is bigger than their problems, yet happy to stir up the fray that has no end.

And in this moment, the fly on the wall knows there is no going back.

Forever would never come.
