Challenge open Saturday 21st July 2018 – Thursday 26th June 2018
Welcome to the Six Word Story Challenge.
For those who have never dropped by before, a new prompt is posted every Saturday morning at 9am GMT, either on this site or that of fellow blogger Wonderwall. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to plot a story on that subject… in just six words.
The school holidays are just beginning for many of us here in the UK. Whether that fills you with dread or excitement, nevertheless teachers and pupils alike have reached the end of another school year and can hopefully relax for the next six weeks. With that in mind, your prompt for this week is …. (drumroll)
Recovery
What does this mean to you? Getting some well earned rest and relaxation after a long and busy school year? Getting the all clear from illness? Getting over a heartbreak? Or recovering something that was lost? I can’t wait to hear what you all come up with! Here’s my attempt to get you started:
Forget? If only! Maybe one day…
See what you can come up with, and enter your six-word story in the comments below.
So how does it work?
- Leave your story in the comments until Thursday 9.30pm GMT (and possibly a bit later this week as I’ll be on another train journey coming back from London)
- Like, comment & engage with other authors
- On Thursday, I publish a poll – and this is the important bit – don’t forget to come back and vote for your favourite!
- Bask in glory if you’re a winner.
Never tried microfiction before?
Never fear, help is at hand. You can get a few more hints and tips about writing six word stories here.
Can I share my story?
Of course – in fact, please do! The more people who take part in this weekly challenge, the merrier. Tell your story and inspire others to have a go. Write a blog post, send me a pingback, share your six word story on social media or reblog this post to encourage your own followers to take part. There are various different hashtags floating round t’internet, so you can use any of these to reach a wider audience – #SixWordStoryChallenge #6words #sixwordstory #microfiction #flashfiction #fiction #amwriting. The most common one we’re using at the moment is #SixWordStoryChallenge, so linking up to that hashtag should help you connect with other participants.
How is the winner chosen?
I close entry to the Six Word Story Challenge on Thursday and open a poll which remains open for 24hrs. Anybody and everybody is invited to vote in this poll, the winner is the story with the most votes at 9pm on Friday. Simples!
Click through to this page to read the full rules of the challenge.
Good luck! Remember to share your entry on social media using the sharing buttons below! Let’s tell everyone about our challenge, the more the merrier! and don’t forget – use the hashtag#SixWordStoryChallenge.

Always impressed by anyone who can get a metaphor into a six word story – and that’s a particularly good one!

Oh, I meant to write, “Too far!”, not “Too late!”. Am I the only person who’s taken this challenge that needs an editor?

Too late works fine!

Thanks! I was wondering if it was weaker, less poignant than “too far”?

Welcome to the Six Word Story Paul! I agree, too far is slightly better – I think I can edit your comments even if you can’t, so I can change it for you if you like?

Reblogged this on Wonderwall and commented:
This week Kirsty has talked about the process that happens when the school year ends, before September. Thursday and Friday respectively, I loved saying the words ‘See you in September’ as I left each of my two jobs. I’m having a mini Sabbatical. It is festival time. At the moment Sheffield Tramlines, then it is Edinburgh festival. Kirsty is hoping for

When you think you have finally made up your story then realise the person above has managed to get a twist into theirs! But it is Thurs guess best post it.
Year post shattering redundancy; Confidence returning.

Oh this is so true. Took about 4 years in my case! A universal tale too many of us can relate to, sadly.
