Here’s my contribution for this week’s #SongLyricSunday, dedicated to Helen who’s taking a short break from hosting this weekly musical prompt. Hope you’re feeling better soon lovely lady! And thank you to Jim who’s taking over hosting for a while.
This song dates from 1968 but I didn’t hear it until about 1990 when I bought the Crazy World of Arthur Brown’s 7″ single “Fire” (Rest Cure was the B-side). I can’t remember why I was buying left-field psychedelic sixties rock as a teen in 1990s Liverpool, but I did spend a lot of time rummaging through second-hand record shops, probably whilst avoiding double French, and I think I’d heard and liked Fire! on Annie Nightingale or one of my dad’s old reel to reel tapes. Anyway, both songs are pretty good. So as a bonus, after the lyrics to Rest Cure, I’m going to give you Fire! as well.
And nothing is in its right place
Your friends are lettin’ you down
And you can’t seem to find the right face
All you want is me
All you need is me to give you
Rest cure for all your ills
Rest cure to make the world stand still
Rest cure and the world will bring you down no more
When livin’ becomes just a task
And your burden’s too heavy to bear
And life is travelin’ so fast
That colours become just a glare
You can lean on me
And take my eyes to see, to give you
Rest cure for all your ills
Rest cure to make the world stand still
Rest cure and the world will bring you down no more
Take my hand and I’ll show you where
The love can banish all your worries and despair
When you can’t cling onto the past
Cause you’re not proud of anything you’ve done, no
And each moment seems like your last
Cause you’re robbed of all you’ve won
All you want is me
All you need is me to give you
Rest cure for all your ills
Rest cure to make the world stand still
Rest cure and the world will bring you down no more
I remember Fire as that was a big hit, but I never heard Rest Cure before. That was a great fit for the prompt and it was nice to hear fire again as it has been years since I listened to it.

Glad you enjoyed it! Yes, I only heard Rest Cure when I actually bought the single (remember those days?!)

Don’t think I’ve ever heard Arthur before but he has a 60s David Bowie feel. Nice share!

Excellent choice Kirsty. I was surprised to see they are still active. I bet he doesn’t set himself alight now though!

Which apparently nearly did him some very serious damage!

Yes. Some fans sacrificed their pints to throw over him!
