Challenge open Saturday 18th August 2018 – Thursday 23rd August 2018
Welcome to the Six Word Story Challenge.
For those who have never dropped by before, a new prompt is posted every Saturday morning at 9am GMT, either on this site or that of fellow blogger Wonderwall. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to plot a story on that subject… in just six words.
I don’t know where the last week has disappeared to – it’s gone so fast! It’s shaping up to be another of those summer holidays where I plan much (holidays, family get togethers, outings) but deliver relatively little in my kids’ eyes. At least this week, the 7YO has been happily occupied with her drama club, spending a week rehearsing and then today putting on Alice in Wonderland for the assembled mums and dads. So, with a nod to Alice, your prompt for this week is:
Fantasy
And here’s my attempt to get you started:
One day, she thought, he’ll change.
See what you can come up with, and enter your six-word story in the comments below.
So how does it work?
- Leave your story in the comments until Thursday 9.30pm GMT (and possibly a bit later this week as I’ll be on another train journey coming back from London)
- Like, comment & engage with other authors
- On Thursday, I publish a poll – and this is the important bit – don’t forget to come back and vote for your favourite!
- Bask in glory if you’re a winner.
Never tried microfiction before?
Never fear, help is at hand. You can get a few more hints and tips about writing six word stories here.
Can I share my story?
Of course – in fact, please do! The more people who take part in this weekly challenge, the merrier. Tell your story and inspire others to have a go. Write a blog post, send me a pingback, share your six word story on social media or reblog this post to encourage your own followers to take part. There are various different hashtags floating round t’internet, so you can use any of these to reach a wider audience – #SixWordStoryChallenge #6words #sixwordstory #microfiction #flashfiction #fiction #amwriting. The most common one we’re using at the moment is #SixWordStoryChallenge, so linking up to that hashtag should help you connect with other participants.
How is the winner chosen?
I close entry to the Six Word Story Challenge on Thursday and open a poll which remains open for 24hrs. Anybody and everybody is invited to vote in this poll, the winner is the story with the most votes at 9pm on Friday. Simples!
Click through to this page to read the full rules of the challenge.
Good luck! Remember to share your entry on social media using the sharing buttons below! Let’s tell everyone about our challenge, the more the merrier! and don’t forget – use the hashtag#SixWordStoryChallenge.

Keep thinking I should read or listen to Alice. This time Ish last week was watching performance of Alice.
Yep Tre knights in shining armour, princes, fairytale 🧚♀️ endings… don’t exist. We are so cynical! Let’s see who can come up with something magical 🧚♀️ 🧚♂️ 🧚♂️

I think Alice is better as a performance than a book to be honest. There’s something vaguely creepy about his writing style but it was a visual feast on stage!

Yep I’m thinking audio book may be better than reading it.

Time to dream! This week’s prompt from Kirsty is FANTASY, inspired by Alice in Wonderland which Kirsty and I have both seen in last week. Watching Alice in Wonderland is not compulsory, I have only watched short performances in f it, but wonder if should read / listen to the whole book.
To enter a story, please follow the link below to pop over to Kirsty’s blog.

It’s almost voting time… the poll will open in just over an hour, so if you can think of a six word story, there’s still time!
